Hello everyone! Kuromi here. It's been a while since I've updated this blog. Fret not, for today we're gonna take a look at one of the latest completed anime series, New Game!.
Overview
New Game! is a slice of life anime about a freshly graduate girl, Suzukaze Aoba, spending her days working in a game developer company known as Eagle Jump. She was assigned to the Arts and Graphics Department, where she met new workmates and her supervisor, Yagami Kou, which also happens to be her idol as well.
The anime features her experiences as an employee in training, where she learns how to produce 3D models which is new to her for example. She also learn about work ethics and the working society's culture first hand (drink party much?). Lucky for Aoba, her first project was the development of the third installment of her favourite game series, Fairies Stories 3.
Aesthetics
New Game!'s art style emphasize one of the mainstream points in today's anime, moe. That's right, almost chibi, cuteness level over nine thousand, giddy acts and such. No wonder it attracts so much viewers, from both male AND female audiences (and lolicons, of course). Personally, it doesn't really give much impact, but I have to admit that I did have some hnnnng moments. Especially with Hifumi-senpai!
Besides the 'moe' factor, the colours and compositions within the series were vivid and breathtaking. The arts department really nailed it on making the graphics consistent and in 'theme'.
Music
The opening song, Sakura Skip, and the ending song, Now Loading!!!! are both performed by fourfolium. The opening gives off the cute and cheerful vibe which is consistent with the series' theme. But it was the ending that really gets me. It is smooth and chill, not too relaxed, but meaningful. It was simply an earful gourmet.
Not to forget, the insert musics were pretty nice as well. Catchy and fun most of the time, but it gets better on the serious parts as well (yes, this anime has serious scenes, mind you).
Since the series is pretty much comedy, expect some upbeat cheerful BGMs all the way.

- Moe blobs everywhere
- Pretty arts, pretty colors
- Good music, at least the OP and ED
- A lot of hnnng moments
- Hifumi-senpai and Ahagon!
Things you would not expect:
- Plot is straightforward and pretty much dry
- Cuteness can kill, not literally, mind you
- Music is good, just that, good, nothing special
- Comedy is not THAT funny
- Nenecchi is friggin' annoying as hell
