Otaku Culture - Know your Dere!
Greetings dear ladytakus and gentleweebs, Kuromi is back with an article requested by an avid reader. That's right, folks. Today we're gonna take a look on all the different types of dere in the anime and manga world.
A dere is a type or personality characterisation of a character within a manga or an anime series.
So without further ado, let's take a look on the list of some of the most used dere in anime and manga.
1. Tsundere
First off the list is one of the most famous dere among all, the tsundere. A tsundere is a character which is hard and irritable (tsun tsun) but became soft and lovely (dere dere) as the story progress, which usually happened around their person of love interests. Well in other words, they are the bipolars of the anime and manga world. A tsundere can be categorised into two distinctive categories known as Tsundere type A (Harsh Tsundere) and Tsundere Type B (Sweet Tsundere).
Tsundere type A or Harsh Tsundere is the more famous as most series used this type of tsundere in their stories. With a recognisable traits and behaviour patterns to boot, this type became the very icon of tsundere. A harsh tsundere is a character with their harsh (tsun tsun) attitude as their default behaviour. Later, they began to turn into a much softer character (dere dere), which usually have their love interest as the main factor for such developments. Even though their in their dere dere stage, they still show signs of their irritations from their previous tsun tsun personality. However, this is usually because of the characters' still trying to appear strong or proud.
There are tons of examples of characters of this type. Famous female characters such as Aisaka Taiga (Toradora!), Asuka Langley (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Vegeta (Dragonball Z), Syaoran (Cardcaptor Sakura) and the list goes on.

They often speak with reluctance and denying their true intentions because of their tough personality and pride, especially towards their love interest. In other words, it's a little something like this:
Tsundere type B or Sweet Tsundere is more of the rarer bunch. They have their dere dere side as their default behaviour or personality. They are sweet and soft most of the times, if not, all the time. They are soft to everyone BUT the person of their love interest. However, being the sweet person they are, their harsh or violent side only appeared when certain triggers were pushed.
A good example for this kind of tsundere is Kagome from Inuyasha.
2. Yandere

Boyfriend: "Honey, I think it's not working between us. I love my coworker more and things are just right for the both of us. I'm afraid I have to lea-- wait. Honey? Is that a knife? What are you doing with that? Hold on, now. Calm down, there's no need to-- ack!!!"
Yandere Girlfriend: "You're mine, and mine alone, dear. If I can't have you, THEN NO ONE CAN! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
I hope you guys enjoyed my short bad script, and that my friends, is an example of a yandere. To those who are not so familiar with the anime and manga world, the first reaction they'll have when they discovered a yandere would be like: WHAT THE F*CK!?
It is pretty understandable since most of the time, yandere characters have traumatic backgrounds that leads to some mental disorders, or they just simply have it since the beginning. Bottom line is, they simply had a slightly to totally mental disorders.
Most yandere characters tend to have a very possessive nature, and in this case, the person they love or had a crush on. Normally, regular people might simply had a 'talk' with the other person whom tried to woo their lover. However, yandere characters usually did MORE than just 'talking'. There'll be blood splattered, hearts broken, tears shed... and more blood.
Personally, I'm confused with this type of dere, simply because it's twisted, as simple as that. Still, there are many ladytakus and gentleweebs out there seemed to be 'attracted' to these kind of characters. All we can say is, to each their own, I guess.
Most yandere characters tend to have a very possessive nature, and in this case, the person they love or had a crush on. Cold and/or harsh on the outside, but sweet and caring on the inside. That is the very definition of a kuudere character. This trope had been used since the olden age of manga and anime. Just like the tsundere, kuudere characters have several default personalities.
Type 1 - The cold (kuu) side as the default. They will appear cold to most other people and became extra cold to their person of interest. A much thicker ice to thaw out to get into their dere side.
Type 2 - The lovey-dovey (dere) side as the default. This type of kuudere is appeared to be open to most other people but only being cold to their love interest, where they show their dere side more frequently than type 1. In other words, they are the thin ice on top of the lake. It's not that hard to get through to their dere side.
Type 3 - Okay, this type of kuudere is strange. It seemed like they have a switch to turn on or off. No, not that kind of turn on. They switch between their kuu and dere side just like that, all the time. Rarely found in anime and manga series. Anyone knows someone else like Inuyasha? No? Same.

4. Deredere
What's more direct than deredere? It's in the name. The staple character trope for main heroines in most anime and manga. Sweet and loving for the protagonist, ALL THE TIME.

But wait! Isn't dandere the same? No. Dandere is loving and sweet as well, but they were shy and softspoken. On the other hand, deredere characters are pretty much very expressive and energetic. Pretty much loud. They are also quick to fall in love or crushing on someone.
They are also well known for their giving and kind nature to others, besides their love interests. In other words, they're the cinnamon roll of the series. And we sure know, nothing beats cinnamon rolls.
Examples of deredere characters are a lot, but well known ones includes Neptune from Hyperdimension Neptunia or Onodera from Nisekoi.
Final Summation
So yeah, these are only SOME of the famous dere's in anime and manga. Of course, there are a lot, and I mean a hell lot, of other dere out there. So much it could cause cancer, only hardcore gentleweebs and ladytakus are immune to this stuff. But that doesn't mean that you have to be one, unless you're on the side where you can't be saved no more.
As you grow into this community, soon, this will be a common knowledge. But for now, I hope you guys learned a little something about dere's and whatnot.

Hey there folks, Kuromi here. Today I'll be doing another requested article. It's from one of my college bestie and he said, "Do hentai".
Well he doesn't specifically ask for the details, so I'm just gonna relate this article with my previous one. Also please pay no mind at all to my inconsistent font selections. It's my blog and I can do any sh*ts I want. Anyways, we're not gonna talk deep into this matter (as in super explicit). So don't worry, I'll make sure you guys can ease in this topic for today (no puns intended there).

What is Hentai?
So before we begin, let us ask our own understanding on what hentai actually is. Just like how the otaku term means differently between the Japanese and Western cultures, the same thing goes for hentai.

The word 'hentai' that we know today was actually a term used in the field of science/technology in Japan meaning 'change' or 'transformation'. But time goes on and soon it was used to define something as 'twisted' or 'perverse'.
In the Western, however, the word hentai was specifically used to define pornographic Japanese animations and manga/comics. That's right, again with the stereotyping.
So it's up to you to use however you like with the word 'hentai', but I'm going to use the Western definition for this article so you guys could understand lil' bit.
Hentai and Ecchi
Now we go on to the next frequently asked question, what's the difference between hentai and ecchi? Are they the same thing?
Little boys and girls, I tell you here and now, that ecchi is not hentai. There are cases that an anime or manga portray so much ecchi that it became borderline hentai and people actually watch them more. That's right, I'm talking to you little boy.
Ecchi only portrays inuendos and mild suggestive images. But it never went all the way to actual sexual acts as hentai did. So it is safe for underages to watch ecchi animes. But it still might inappropriate for below 15 or so. However, there are kids still watching all these, you should notify your school about this.
Types of Hentai
While most hentai portrays women (sometimes little girls) being 'abused', there are reversed situation where men are the one's being 'abused'. Sometimes, even men 'abusing' men.
Not to mention, bestiality. The world of hentai is certainly not for everyone for it is completely bizzare and most of the time very offensive (Kuro Ai just passed through my mind) like the glorification of rape.
There are many genres of hentai today, but one of the most popular one to the Western community is, of course, the tentacle hentai.
Japanese have always been weird, I guess it also applied to their sexual interests. It is famous but tentacle porn was actually old school. Not many ecchi or hentai series used this genre anymore (I'm guessing they're getting more normal now), but it's not been cast out yet either. Strange as it may be, but it is one of the attracting factor of Japanese hentai.
Is it an obligation?
Now we get to the main question. Is every otaku a hentai audience? The answer is, NO. Not every otaku watches hentai. It's just that almost 7 out of 10 otaku did watched them. But not ALL of them. I won't deny that I did seen some of them, but I got a bunch of otaku friends that is still pure and innocent (maybe).
It is a habit of people stereotyping every otaku watches hentai, so to you guys who starting out being an otaku, watching hentai is optional. If you do know any otaku who watches hentai, don't be afraid to hang out with them. They already 'vent off' their 'needs' so they won't 'disturb' you. In fact, most of the otaku guys I know that watches hentai are more polite than normal people. Maybe it's because they know what is rude, offensive and inappropriate through the things they watch, they can differentiate the good and the bad.

Are You an Otaku? - Normies' FAQ Response
Hey you, yes you. Are you an otaku? Don't know? Well look no further cause' today we're going to discuss on how can you identify yourself or others as an otaku.
Hi guys, Kuromi here. We're going to discuss a topic that has been debated for centuries now (nope, I made that up). Since the previous requested article was a success, I'll write another requested article as a thank you to you readers. What's that? My fonts had changed? Screw the details, I'm too lazy to keep changing to Helvetica everytime I write and you know it. Anyways, let's move on to our topic.
What is an 'Otaku'?
So, first thing first, what in the glob is an 'otaku'. Your first thought might went straight to an image of a either fat or super skinny guy, almost 30 year old, wearing huge glasses, waifu shirt and shorts carrying tons of lewd animu posters. Well fellas, you are CORRECT! ... Just kidding. Being an otaku can't be determined by how he/she looks or wear, it is way, waaayyy more than that.

In Japan, the word 'otaku' is to relate a person with his/her most favourite fandom. It doesn't have to be anime/manga fandom. If a person loves, let's say, history, then in Japan, he/she will be called 'rekishi otaku' (歴史オタク, Eng: History Otaku). You're saying that you're a One Direction fangirl and you're not an otaku? You're a friggin' otaku of One Direction! Yeah, take that you normies!
However, in the West (even here in Malaysia, my place), once a person hear the word 'otaku', they will instantly relate it to Japanese anime fandom. Worse, they might relate it to stuffs like hentai. (We'll discuss this on another post). Stereotyping much?
All in all, it's up to you on what really defines 'otaku'. To me, I consider the original definition which is from Japan. But when I converse with my readers, I'll go with the Western view (or any Eastern countries outside Japan) as most of my readers, you guys, had that mind set with relating anime/manga fandom with the term 'otaku'.
Otaku Versus Weeabo
Now this will be an interesting topic to talk about. But I'm not that brave enough to talk much cause' I'm afraid there will be weeaboos out there, reading this blog post, and commenting with full on Capslock on what might be discussed here.
Are YOU an Otaku?
Now we arrived to the part we had been waiting for. It's time to see which faction do you belong to, perhaps the Dauntless? Amity? Abnegation? Nevermind the Divergent reference, let's move on.
Yes I put this on purpose, at least, to those who understand.
So how did we know if we, or someone else, are otakus? There is a theory that goes like, if you watch this much of anime or read this much of manga, you're an otaku. Now I'm going to say it straight to your face. IT. DOESN'T. WORK. THAT. WAY.
Being an otaku doesn't require much 'dedication' to be one. Otakus aren't a secret society like Freemasons and such (but we do have signs, symbols and secret messages that can only be understood by fellow otakus like the above test). Once you have an interest in anime, manga, figure or any of those stuff, you're already an otaku. It would be much more concrete if that interest of yours becomes a fandom. Just don't get into it TOO MUCH until it becomes an obsession. Then you're just another weeaboo.
Conclusion
So, are YOU an otaku? It's up to you yourself to consider what to call yourself. Be it a fanboy/fangirl, a geek or whatever, it's all you. Don't let any other people determine who you are. Like Jesus had said, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. (I can't believe I quoted Jesus in an article like this, lol).
